Professor Nicholas Sims-Williams Receives Farabi International Award

Professor Nicholas Sims-Williams, Emeritus Professor of Iranian and Central Asian Studies at SOAS University of London and MUYA team member, recently travelled to Tehran to receive the Farabi International Award for Iranian and Islamic Studies. The awards were presented by Es’haq Jahangiri, Vice-President of Iran to Professor Sims-Williams to honour his life's work in Old and Middle Iranian philology - the study of the history of language, including the historical study of literary texts.

The Farabi International Award, now in its 10th year, is held by the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology to develop Islamic Humanities and is also one of the highest awards of its kind in Iran. Professor Sims-Williams was one of 36 domestic and foreign winners who were honoured for their research promoting better understanding of Iran’s culture and history on 27 January 2019.
